Dennis Wise receives backing in Charlton takeover bid
Tuesday, 20 October 2009
CHARLTON fans have paved the way for Dennis Wise to complete a takeover at The Valley by backing the former Millwall manager’s bid to buy the club.
Sources have confirmed to the South London Press that Wise and Brixton-born former Newcastle player-recruitment chief Tony Jiminez are fronting a Middle Eastern consortium keen to plough cash into the SE7 outfit.
But any deal is understood to be some way off being finalised. It is believed Wise may seek a managerial role - and bring his former Leeds assistant Gus Poyet with him.
Wise’s group may have a fight on their hands for the club, with reports linking former Birmingham City owner David Sullivan with a takeover.
Charlton’s board, who are actively looking for a buyer, are sure to welcome the latest moves, with competition likely to drive up the price. The arrival of Wise, though, Millwall boss from 2002-05, could split fans.
But Paul Nottage, spokesman for the official Charlton Supporters’ Club, insists his organisation would have no problem with the ex-Chelsea midfielder becoming involved at The Valley.
“Whoever comes in must have the best interests of the club at heart and also a reasonable amount of money,” said Nottage.
“As long as the new owners are prepared to run the club in the right way - the way it has been run for most of the last seven years - then that’s fine and it doesn’t matter who they are."

At no time was it mentioned to me that Wise would be manager or would have any position in the club something I wouldn’t want. What I said if he was arranging the finance then thats fine. I also said that IF anything is going on then it should be completed ASAP so it doesn’t effect the team which happened previously. I was also speaking on behalf of G and B branch not the whole supporters club.
