Boss sounds warning over Leon McKenzie fitness

Thursday, 15 October 2009

CHARLTON boss Phil Parkinson has warned that striker Leon McKenzie is not yet ready to start in the first team.

The former Coventry forward, who signed on transfer-deadline day in August, made his first appearance for the Addicks as a substitute in the 0-0 draw with Oldham on Saturday.

But Parkinson said: “Leon came back at the weekend but I need to make it clear that he’s not ready to start games at the moment.

“I know the fans want to see him but Leon has a history of coming back from injuries and then breaking down, and we want to avoid that at all costs.

“The Achilles problem which has kept him out for so long was a very serious one. We will take things slowly.

“I brought him on on Saturday to give him a boost but he’s here for the long term and that has to be our main concern.”
