Fisher suffer derby misery
Monday, 09 March 2009
Bromley 3 Fisher 0
DESPITE a battling performance, Fisher Athletic's poor run of results continued as they went down to mid-table Bromley at Hayes Lane.
It could have been so different had midfielder Nicky Greene's lob found the back of the net inside the first minute, but it went inches over the bar.
The home side carved out their first opportunity moments later, with Arron Dalhouse delivering a cross that Ali Chaaban volleyed narrowly over the bar.
Fisher had another great chance to take the lead, on 17 minutes, when Jamie Lovegrove slipped in Greene but his effort was well saved by Gareth Williams.
At the other end, Fish's new keeper Stuart Robinson, a recent recruit from Northwich Victoria, was in the action as he made a fine parry to deny Ryan Hall.
However, there was little he could do to stop the home side going ahead six minutes before the break, as Ashley Robinson's shot came back off the post into the path of striker Warren McBean, who had the simple task of slotting home from close range.
That lead was doubled on 56 minutes when Dalhouse went on a surging run before pulling the ball back from the byline for Chaaban to convert with a fierce shot into the roof of the net.
The game threatened to run away from Dave Mehmet's side as Bromley surged forward at every opportunity. They were indebted to Robinson as he made some excellent saves to deny Chaaban, McBean and former player Kenny Beaney.
Despite being on the back foot, substitute John Raus could have made for a tense finish but fired straight at Williams from around 15 yards out.
Any hopes of a comeback were extinguished on 73 minutes, as a dreadful mistake by Manny Sackey gifted the ball to Chaaban and he squared for an unmarked McBean to slot home from 10 yards.
Substitute Anthony Charlton, another new signing by Mehmet, almost gave the Fisher faithful something to cheer about with a long-range curling effort that looked destined for the top corner until Williams just managed to get enough on the ball to turn it over the bar.
Despite another defeat, the Fish played some good football but their lack of firepower, highlighted by just two goals in their last nine matches, is a big problem and a real cause for concern.
