Harry Potter stars visit South London
Thursday, 19 November 2009
WIZARDS made famous by the Harry Potter films were in South London – without their broomsticks and cloaks.
Miriam Margolyes presented awards at The British Home in Crown Lane, Streatham on Thursday to honour newly qualified staff.
The charity provides specialised nursing and social care for more than 100 adults with severe disabilities and long-term medical conditions.
Ms Margolyes attended the awards ceremony after being invited by a friend.
She played Professor Sprout in the film Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets in 2002, and will also appear in two forthcoming Potter films.
Christine Bradford, The British Home activities co-ordinator, said: “It really enhances our profile to have a well-known actress to hand out the awards.”
Meanwhile, another actress from the Harry Potter franchise – which has grossed more than £3billion worldwide – was at a Dulwich school on the same day.
Imelda Staunton, who played Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, visited Kingsdale School in Alleyn Park, Dulwich.
During a question-and-answer session, kids asked Ms Staunton about her long film career and the movie business.
The event was organised by Film Club, which organises trips to schools by famous actors and directors.
