FORMER Dons star Andy Roberts has defended the club’s underdog mentality as a documentary taints the image of the Crazy Gang.
Roberts was in the last Wimbledon side to play Liverpool in the Premier League, in 2000, and is thrilled AFC Wimbledon have drawn the Anfield side in the FA Cup.
But he has also stuck up for the team which defied the odds to climb the divisions from 1978 and won famous victories on slender resources.
Roberts signed from Crystal Palace in 1998 and went on to rack up his longest spell at any single club - almost five years.
“It was mad,” said the midfielder, whose career only took in two other clubs - Millwall, and a five-game spell at Norwich. “There were no big egos and it was such fun.
“There were three or four other boys from Millwall - Mark Kennedy, Ben Thatcher and John Goodman - so I settled easily.
