Expectations were high for home match but it was not meant to be

Wednesday, 10 September 2014

Tavistock AFC 1 Radstock Town 2 THE Lambs disappointingly crashed out of the FA Vase at home to Radstock Town of the Western League Division 1. Tavistock were optimistic prior to kick off as the visitors had previously not won a game this season, so expectations were high but it was just not to be their day for the second successive home match in a week. Tavistock started brightly and within the opening five minutes Kelvin Fyneboy weaved through the defence to find himself facing the opposing keeper. He passed to Jarryd Kelly who unfortunately lifted the ball over the bar. The visitors then took the lead on the half hour from a corner. The ball was delivered deep to the back post and the Lambs’ keeper Piper called to claim but missed the ball completely; it deflected down into the penalty area for the onrushing Radstock player to smash an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net from ten yards. Worse was to come for Tavistock as Radstock doubled their lead six minutes later. Piper then atoned for his earlier error, saving a free kick and then blocking a shot when the Radstock striker was clean through keeping the Lambs in the game. In the second half Tavistock keeper Piper had a quiet half in goal and was not troubled at all. The Lambs were rampant in creating opportunities but were finding it hard to break through a resolute defence and goalkeeper. The frustrated Farnham, Fyneboys and Edwards all had opportunities to score as did substitute Ollie Archer but it was just not to be. With ten minutes to play Farnham ran for a loose ball, missing it completely and clashed with the onrushing defender. As soon as Farnham was on his feet the red card was brandished and he left the field. In the 90th minute Fyneboy unleashed a fantastic left foot drive into the corner of the net. n This Saturday the first team are away to Appledore, kick off 3pm. n The reserves play host to local rivals Saltash on Wednesday evening, kick off 7.30pm, and on Saturday the reserves are at home again in the cup against Fowey, kick off 2.30pm.
