Bowlers lead the way as Totteridge secure a vital triumph

Thursday, 24 July 2014

TOTTERIDGE MILLHILLIANS produced a fine display with the ball as they claimed a much-needed five-wicket win at Flitwick in the Saracens Hertfordshire County Cricket?League Championship on Saturday.

The visitors wasted little time in justifying their decision to bowl first as Joe Wray (3-34) claimed an early wicket.

George Thurstance and Mark Umlauf provided some resistance in a second-wicket stand of 23, before a stunning collapse saw five wickets fall for the addition of four runs – with Flitwick also having a player retire hurt during this spell.

The lower order attempted to fight back, but only a total of 23 extras helped them to get up to 86-9. Ramesh Subasinghe (3-14) and Hasan Mahmood (2-8) also impressed with the ball.

A quick-fire 43 from Steve Selwood ensured that Totteridge soon began to make inroads into their small target.

Wickets tumbled at the other end, but an unbeaten 32 from Justin Le Fort ended any doubt over the result as the visitors eased to 89-5.
