Charlton boss Powell confirms Kermorgant and Stephens talks

Thursday, 30 January 2014

CHARLTON boss Chris Powell has confirmed that Dale Stephens is on the verge of joining Brighton.

And the Addicks chief has also admitted that Yann Kermorgant is a target for AFC Bournemouth.

Stephens looks set to wrap up a move to the Seagulls after a fee was agreed between the two clubs.

Powell said: "Brighton have made a number of offers and Dale has expressed his right to speak to them if the club agreed a deal - which the club has.

"Obviously I would like Dale to stay. Everyone has seen this season that he has been playing at the level we always thought he could.

"There's still a lot more to come from him. He has got all the attributes to be a top player in the Premier League."

Bournemouth are believed to have bid £500,000 for Kermorgant. The Charlton talisman held talks with the Cherries yesterday.

"Yann is arguably my best signing with regards to cost and what he's brought to the club," said Powell. "But he's in a situation where he has six months to go and the club have looked at the situation. There's been a discussion in trying to get a deal agreed but now there has been an enquiry.

"Whether that will go through after talks between Yann, his advisors, Bournemouth and discussions with our club we're yet to see exactly what will happen.

"I know Yann is very attached to the club and the area. He's settled in really well in London. I 100 per cent would like him to stay but realise the position that he and the club are in."
