Eagles happy to take a risk on André Moritz
Tuesday, 04 September 2012
PALACE boss Dougie Freedman has admitted that André Moritz is a “small risk” but that he knew after one training session that the Brazilian has the potential to be a Selhurst Park hit.
The 26-year-old had been on trial with Rangers but signed a 12-month deal with the Eagles last Friday.
Freedman said: “He is a bit of an unknown - we are taking a small risk - but I just saw raw talent. I’d been hearing good things from a contact about his trial at Glasgow Rangers but he wasn’t playing any games.
“Andy Gray, the ex-Crystal Palace player, is now an agent and was looking after things on the British side of his transfer. As soon as I heard that I asked Andy to bring him down.
“He trained with us for a few days and after one session I knew we had a player. He is a bit unfit and needs to get into the tempo of the game over here.
“He played for six years out in Turkey and our research shows he scores a goal and is a handful.”
Moritz holds Italian citizenship. The former Fluminese schemer left Mersin Idmanyurdu in the summer.
