Kevin Phillips will bide time before making playing decision
Sunday, 02 June 2013
WEMBLEY matchwinner Kevin Phillips will wait until he returns from holidaying in Dubai before making a decision over his playing future.
The 39-year-old striker scored the decisive extra-time penalty which took Palace into the Premier League.
And Phillips, whose spot-kick clinched a 1-0 win over Watford at Wembley, said: "I'm pretty much sure I'll carry on in some capacity. I don't want to be making a decision in the next couple of days that I regret.
"I've had a couple of offers already but I haven't said yes or no. You're pretty much back into pre-season quite sharpish because of the season starting earlier next year. A lot of teams are back on June 24 or 25 and that ain't far away.
"I'm not daft. If something was offered to me [by Palace] I'd have to consider it.
"I've got to make the right decision because of the commute. I'm still based in the Midlands. That would make me the oldest outfield player in the Premier League. I'm three months older than Ryan [Giggs] and it would be a dream. If anyone asked me when I started out at 20 that I'd still be playing at 40 I'd have said no. It would be a big lure - put it that way.
"In the Premier League you need established players. You need that right blend of youthfulness and exuberance. The gaffer will know that. The good thing is he will have learned from his time at Blackpool.
"Whether the chairman will give him a big kitty, who knows? But he's got £120m to play around with. I think we could be OK. Obviously we need signings but so does every other team that got promoted."
